Aarohan 1.0: A Tribute to the IIMs’ Sportsmanship

In December of 2024, IIM Bodh Gaya played host to the much-anticipated inter-IIM sports festival, Aarohan 1.0, in the spirit of teamwork, friendly rivalry, and mutual support. An incredible experience filled with exciting contests and unparalleled excitement, this electrifying event brought together the top sporting talents from IIM Bodh Gaya (BG), IIM Sambalpur, and IIM Ranchi.

It was a three-day event (13th–15th) that saw the teams battle against each other in many different sports, such as chess, badminton, table tennis, athletics, football, basketball, volleyball, cricket, etc. With the excitement of the audience, the roar of players, and the spirit of teamwork among the athletes, the verdant campus of IIM Bodh Gaya came to life. At the festival’s opening ceremony, our esteemed director, Dr. Vinita S. Sahay, presided over a magnificent inauguration. She lit the ceremonial torch to symbolize the enthusiasm and solidarity of the young managers as they strive for greatness on the field. By winning most of the competitions, IIM Bodh Gaya established itself as a dominant force in this sports festival. Some outstanding performances were witnessed in various sports, such as:

Cricket: The home team won a thrilling final against IIM Ranchi with great coordination and a winning hit by P. Wandre of 1st year MBA. Furthermore, in basketball, the BG players dominated the competition with their lightning quickness and pinpoint accuracy. Both badminton and table tennis were won by BG players in each format. Their speed, accuracy, and skill helped them to victory. In chess, the IIMBG teams that competed on each board cruised to a resounding victory. However, the competition was intense, with both IIM Ranchi and IIM Sambalpur showcasing their skills and challenging the hosts.

The event celebration allowed IIM students to bond and make lifelong friends. Evenings were just as lively, with performances by the cultural committee, DJ nights, and food stalls serving up regional specialties like litti choka. With the final prizes distributed and the closing ceremony signaling the conclusion of an unforgettable adventure, the participants departed with priceless memories and experiences. The inter-IIM sports carnival was a huge success, and the event organizers (the sports committee) at IIM Bodh Gaya were proud of the standard they set. The goal of Aarohan 1.0 was more than simply winning games; it was to win over hearts and celebrate the power of sports to bring people together.
