The day began with the words, “You’re awesome!” and was followed by laughter and whispers that filled the auditorium. Although most students found it embarrassing, they gradually welcomed one another and bonded after telling each other that they were amazing. Soon after, everyone was doing the same. The organizer announced that although there isn’t much “josh” at the moment, everyone will feel a lot more involved and energized toward the end of the session, despite the fatigue and weariness of the day.
People were randomly assigned to groups, which encouraged us to meet new people. When the groups were split up into teams, the teasing continued, with everyone playing a part. The day included a variety of team-building exercises that, while incredibly entertaining and engaging at the time, always left everyone with new perspectives. These activities ranged from lighthearted banter to intense competition, which makes sense given that the cohort is made up of competitive individuals who never give up.
The lunch and lemonade breaks served as a breather from the activities, but the planning and sabotage continued! Teams were required to construct their own “IIMB” Lego statue as part of team-building exercises. The IIM was simple, but the B wasn’t!
The organizer was proven correct at the end of the day; although the echoes of “You’re awesome” had subsided, the “josh” was at an all-time high at the end of the day. The day gave way to new connections and relationships, thus serving as a sneak peek into everything that we would be experiencing in the years to come!
