A Day In The Life Of An IPM Student At IIM Bodhgaya
IIM Bodh Gaya launched the Integrated Programme in Management (IPM) in the year 2021. Out of the thousands who applied for the program, 67 students got selected at IIM Bodhgaya. I am one of the lucky students. Our college life is as happening as it could be, with a rigorous schedule of classes, a lot of extracurricular , and the daily winding down meets of the students.
IIM Bodh Gaya places a strong emphasis on the overall development of its students. Mindfulness and social responsibility are among the values that the institute strives to instill in each student. The IPM program is designed to help students have a global and interdisciplinary perspective towards management practice. The students are taught problem solving skills through the use of appropriate analytical techniques and instructed in developing an ethical and socially conscious judgment while analyzing business situations, with the help of a rigorous and holistic curriculum.
When I first looked through the IPM curriculum offered at IIM BG, I was intrigued, surprised, and shocked by what I discovered. The subjects and the co-curricular activities piqued my interest. When it comes to the variety of subjects we are studying, we have marketing principles and management principles, as well as economics, mathematics, psychology, and emotional intelligence amongst other subjects. In fact, who would have guessed that the entire class would be learning dance, music, and drama as part of the curriculum? Despite the fact that it feels like an unconventional approach, I believe that it is proving to be most effective for all of us.
The faculty’s willingness to be open-minded to our inputs is encouraging. Besides the engagement with the course material, we have constructive discussion on a variety of topics, be it the federal budget, mental illness, or a book written by Deepak Chopra. All the subjects we learn helps us make a foundation for our future selves. It creates a basis for the types of decisions we may make in the future.
A few of my favorites subjects are the presentation skills workshop and the course on effective communication and language. Whatever may be the scenario in office; presentations are used to communicate with clients, subordinates, and superiors. This is where the practical application of our classes on presentation skills comes into play. From the most fundamental questions about which font and template to use, how to structure the data, to the actual text of the presentation, the classes have got it covered.
Effective communication and listening are the next two classes that have immediate practical applications for us. The importance of listening, how to properly structure our arguments, cultural hot spots, and other aspects of working in a globalized environment are all aspects that help us operate inside and outside the classroom.
From morning to evening classes, assignments and projects in every course, to work or discussion within our committees and clubs, random meets – all of us spend the entire day with each other. We have a hectic schedule, and time management is something that we are all learning in some form or another. Teamwork is another thing that we are becoming quite familiar with because of all of the group projects given to us. However, life remains exciting and every day represents a new and exhilarating challenge.
