Tricolour, energy and a passion called India: Celebrating our 79th Independence Day at IIM Bodh Gaya

As the tricolour unfurled at IIM Bodh Gaya on August 15, 2025, our campus resonated with the spirit of freedom that has defined India for 79 glorious years. Our institution joined millions across the nation in commemorating this momentous occasion, reflecting on our journey as an independent nation.

A Day of Pride and Patriotism

Independence Day is a matter of cultural and political importance that is marked by the hoisting of flags, parades, and cultural programs across India to display diversity and achievements. The day is a joyous celebration of national unity, democratic values, and their continuous motivation in the pursuit of equality and progress.

IIM Bodh Gaya followed the same tradition with the flag hoisted by esteemed Director, Dr. Vinita S. Sahay, followed by the singing of the national anthem which always fills every Indian with a sense of patriotism. An inspirational address by the Director to the entire IIM Bodh Gaya community set the tone for the day, lifting up everyone’s energy.

Cultural Celebrations

A bouquet of cultural programmes offered glimpses of the talent that the campus is gifted with. A yoga performance showcasing India’s heritage, patriotic song performances by students and faculty members, and tiny tots lighting up the stage with their brilliant performances enthralled everyone. Watching these little ones perform with such enthusiasm and pure joy took me on a nostalgic journey back to my own school days. A short play that was woven around the sensationalism of news also delivered a powerful message against intoxication. It was a powerful experience blending the spirit of patriotism with the power of diversity. I could vividly remember those early mornings when I would wake up with excitement, carefully pinning the tricolour badge to my shirt pocket and clutching a small flag in my tiny hands. Standing in the school assembly, eyes fixed on our national flag as it was hoisted, I felt an overwhelming sense of pride and belonging. Today, after all these years, standing here at IIM Bodh Gaya and witnessing this beautiful celebration, I realized that the same pure and unadulterated pride still courses through my veins. The innocence of childhood patriotism has matured into a deeper understanding of what our freedom truly means, but the emotional connection to our tricolour remains as strong as ever.

Our Commitment to Nation Building

As an institution of higher learning, IIM Bodh Gaya recognizes its crucial role in shaping India’s future leaders. Located in historic Bihar, we continue the legacy of nurturing minds that will drive India’s economic and social progress through ethical leadership and innovation.

The 79th Independence Day embodies the spirit of patriotism, unity in diversity, and a commitment to India’s continued growth as a vibrant, inclusive democracy.

Looking Forward

As India celebrates 79 years of Independence in 2025, let us remember together the indomitable spirit of the nation and the sacrifices of those who gave up their lives so that dear India may live free. We shall stand united and pledge to work towards the development of the Nation, building an India that is stronger, inclusive and prosperous; and that future generations are free and just.

The celebration concluded with everyone taking a pledge to uphold democratic values and contribute to our nation’s continued glory.

Jai Hind!
