TEDx Journey

Waking up to a splendid sunny winter morning, filled with anticipation in the land of enlightenment, I quickly donned my jacket and red-inked t-shirt, eager to explore what TedxIIMBG had to offer and broaden my perspective.

The event commenced with a dynamic address from Dr. Vinita S. Sahay, the Director of IIM Bodh Gaya, whose contagious energy set the tone. Initially associating mindfulness with yoga, her talk reshaped my perspective. Mindfulness, as she defined it, is being fully present in the moment without dwelling on the past or worrying about the future, a definition that resonated with me.

With the excitement building up, I eagerly awaited the lineup of speakers focusing on “Innovation and Sustainability.” The stage was adorned with the topic in red, and the audience was buzzing with anticipation.

First up was Mr. Sandeep Chatterjee, Supply Chain and Sustainability Leader at IBM, who delved into waste management, presenting staggering statistics that prompted reflection on the true cost of relentless growth. His message resonated: earth may endure, but humanity’s survival hinges on responsible growth – a concept often overlooked in our pursuit of progress.

Following him was Ms. Mona Gupta, an expert in ESG, CSR and sustainable development. Her talk unveiled the environmental toll of fast fashion, emphasizing the need for transparency and strategic sourcing in addressing sustainability challenges. Her analogy of sustainability as an endless maze left a lasting impression on my understanding.

Mr. Rohit Gulati, Director of Marketing at Johnson & Johnson, painted a vivid picture of a future where medical tools not only save lives but also prioritize environmental impact. His emphasis on innovation as a force for sustainable solutions in healthcare underscored the importance of global collaboration.

Next, Mr. Rajesh Reddy, Founder and CEO of SRAF Proteins, discussed achieving sustainability through data analysis. His insights on collaboration, efficient resource utilization, and the connection between data analysis and sustainability provided a fresh perspective.

Ms. Shivangi Narula, Founder of Skilldify, brought a human touch to the discourse on AI in the industry. She highlighted the enduring role of humans, emphasizing empathy as a key enabler of sustainability.

Ms. Ratika Khandelwal, owner of Rooted.in and a sustainable living enthusiast, challenged the notion that massive problems require only macro-level solutions. She showcased the power of individual actions and the concept of a circular economy, where waste becomes the starting point for new ventures.

The final speaker, Mr. Apurv Misal of Phool.co, shared a captivating journey of finding brilliance in waste flowers. His storytelling underscored the importance of picking the right battles and committing to long-term impact, illustrating sustainability as a journey of enduring commitment.

TedxIIMBG not only brought diverse speakers but ignited multifaceted conversations crucial for positive change. Inspired by the shared commitment to innovation and sustainability, I look forward to witnessing how our collective efforts shape a more compassionate and sustainable world.
