Pragati – CSR Committee
Pragati is the Corporate and Social Responsibility Committee of IIM Bodh Gaya. It endeavors to inculcate a sense of social ethics and duty in the students, deemed essential in the corporate world. The primary goal of Pragati is to stand for a sustainable world. The committee organizes events for the betterment of society as a whole. One such example is the Swachchta Pakhwada, a central government initiative to enlighten the society about the significance of cleanliness and sanitation. Greenathon is another applauded event of Pragati that was held for the first time in December 2022. It was conducted in collaboration with the G20 University Connect Program and promoted the idea of a greener India and the spirit of a healthier lifestyle.
The committee also works in collaboration with the central government and the Bihar state government and accordingly plans events. One of its areas of focus are the villages adopted by IIM Bodh Gaya. The committee provides its members with the enriching experience of selecting a project, planning it, and executing it outside the college premises for the residents of the adopted villages. Over time, Pragati has organized events such as a blood donation drive that witnessed exuberant participation, a menstrual hygiene awareness campaign, a happy periods campaign, a clothing donation drive, career counseling (‘Disha’) sessions, as well as the Unnat Bharat Abhiyan in collaboration with the Government of India, amongst others. The committee looks for funding to host social activities that might have a significant public effect. To quote one instance, the ‘Niine’ firm funded the ‘Happy Periods’ campaign of 2023, promoting education on menstruation hygiene in rural regions.
Being a part of Pragati is both a meaningful and self-satisfying experience at both the organizational and individual levels. The CSR committee helps people find a sense of purpose, learn how to contribute positively to society, and share the knowledge built over time with the underprivileged children of the villages. Members learn from the new experiences and develop empathy. They also acquire the skill to make use of opportunities and build strong and valuable networks. However, it can be said that one of the best parts of being in Pragati committee is the community engagement, which gives a sense of fulfillment. The CSR activities go beyond the regular corporate mindset duties and give members a sense of purpose in life.
