New Horizons: Building your Freshman Year

Once we have graduated from school, life seems easier because the real challenges have not yet begun. It is that time when everything feels like no stone is left unturned. The rollercoaster journey truly begins when you step into college. It’s a place that can lift you, only to bring you down fortuitously. As a freshman, you may undergo new experiences that counter those in your past. You may be preeminent, but suddenly you find yourself in a situation where your existence is questioned. So here are some lessons that will help you going forward, dear IPM First Year.

Upon stepping out of their comfort zone and entering college life, many individuals find themselves in unfamiliar territory. They are suddenly burdened with responsibilities for which they have no prior hands-on experience, yet they are obligated to fulfill these duties due to a lack of discretion.

Every jittery feeling is justified and to make your experience slightly less stressful, you need to start looking for who you are and get rid of the mob mentality. The perception of not being able to do what others are doing often drives away the talent you possess. Engage in the learning process daily, allowing yourself to progress at a pace that suits you. It’s important to remember that learning is for personal development and not to validate yourself to others.

Every person has their interests, and it’s important not to follow someone else blindly. It’s common to feel unsure about your interests and what you want in life, but exploring different things can help you figure it out. The key to everything lies in the fact that it’s important to take the time to understand yourself.

The most crucial aspect is to cease fretting about what lies ahead and focus on living joyfully; try not to be swayed by people and enjoy your college life. Make memorable moments! Embrace the freedom and opportunities that come with college life, and treasure the experiences you will gain, as they will become cherished memories in the years to come. Create moments that you’ll look back on with a smile.
