The event commenced with traditional rituals, including Ganesh Vandana and Saraswati Vandana, which set a tone of reverence and commitment to knowledge. The Chairperson of the MBA-HHM program, Dr. Swapnarag Swain, delivered an inspiring welcome speech, emphasizing the pivotal role that educational institutions play in nurturing the next generation of healthcare leaders. The Honorable Director of IIM Bodh Gaya, Dr. Vinita S. Sahay, followed with an address that reinforced the institute’s dedication to fostering innovation within the healthcare sector.

● Dr. Vikram Pawar, Country Head at Meril, opened the discussion by emphasizing the importance of human connection in healthcare. He stated, “You can’t be a good teacher unless you are a good human being,” underscoring the need for empathy and mindfulness in healthcare delivery. He noted that IIM Bodh Gaya embodies this philosophy, serving as a “global village of healthcare.”
● Dr. Rana Mehta, Senior Partner and Healthcare Leader at PwC, engaged in a thought-provoking conversation with Chhitiz Kumar, Founder of TDR Enterprises. Dr. Mehta highlighted India’s unique opportunities in healthcare, noting that the West has certain flaws that India can capitalize on. He discussed three mega trends shaping the industry: consumerization of healthcare, technology integration, and a shift towards value-based care, asserting that India can emerge as a global leader in healthcare by embracing medical value travel and expanding its role as a healthcare provider.
● Nitin Barekere Ramachandra, Vice President of Global HR at Omega Healthcare, stressed the importance of timely care and addressing patients’ anxiety regarding billing. He pointed out the critical role of medical coding and the need for efficient revenue cycle management, stating, “We must measure digital health automation to optimize high-end revenue cycles.”
● Gaurav Mundra, Vice President of Product Management at IKS Health, introduced the concept of “peeling the onion” of healthcare data. He raised essential questions regarding data ownership and interoperability, highlighting that “80% of healthcare data remains untapped.” Mundra emphasized that the U.S. faces significant challenges with data integration, presenting tremendous opportunities for India to innovate in the coming decade.
● Ranjan Pandey, CHRO at Fortis Hospitals, discussed the alignment of goals between hospitals and insurance companies. He emphasized that workforce promotion and fair compensation are crucial for delivering high-quality patient care, stating, “The best way to ensure care for everyone is to keep them as healthy as possible.”

The second panel shifted focus to the evolving landscape of healthcare financing and insurance models in India, exploring how insurance can support more affordable and accessible care. Key insights included:
● Mr. Ranjan Pandey reiterated the importance of aligning the goals of hospitals and insurance companies to ensure a patient-centric approach. He emphasized that collaboration is key to maintaining a healthy balance in the healthcare system.
● Dr. Gaurav Tripathi, Senior Vice President of Health Management at Aditya Birla Health, discussed the transformation of insurance from a treatment-focused model to one that promotes wellness and preventive care. He explained that insurance providers are now offering policies that cover a wide range of conditions, such as mental health, maternity care, hypertension, and diabetes, reshaping the industry.
● Mr. Prem Anand, Lead Talent Acquisition for India at Narayana Health, emphasized the need for healthcare organizations to invest in talent development and employee well-being. He stated that ensuring healthcare professionals feel valued and motivated is vital for providing high-quality patient care, noting, “We must remember that compassion is at the heart of healthcare; it’s what drives us to be better.”
● Mr. Sumeet Sharda, Senior Vice President at HDFC Ergo General Insurance, explored the role of data democratization in shaping the future of healthcare. He highlighted how ABHA IDs facilitate seamless data exchange, creating opportunities for startups and mid-sized companies. While acknowledging the potential benefits, Sharda also raised concerns about privacy risks and data security that must be carefully addressed.
