77th Independence Day @ IIM Bodh Gaya

On August 15, 1947, India attained freedom from the British Empire after years of enslavement and servitude. It was a difficult journey. Great individuals like Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru, Subhas Chandra Bose, Lal Bahadur Shastri, Lala Lajpat Rai, Rani Lakshmi Bai, Bal Gangadhar Tilak and B. R. Ambedkar made many sacrifices to end British tyranny in India because they loved our nation and cared about the people. The sight of individuals being mistreated in their own country inspired our freedom warriors to be brave and stand up for what they believed in and were entitled to.

India became a democratic republic on August 15, 1947, marking the end of colonialism in India. Our country commemorated its 77th Independence Day this year on August 15, 2023. “Nation First, Always First” served as the theme for this year’s celebrations, as a part of the larger “Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav” commemoration. Indian Institute of Management Bodh Gaya also celebrated this joyful day jubilantly.

Dr. Sreelekha Mishra, Chairperson of Student Affairs Committee, gave the welcoming address followed by a speech by Dr. Vinita S. Sahay, Director of IIM Bodh Gaya. After the flag hoisting ceremony, the celebrations continued. There was a cultural programme that included dance and music performances. The institution also celebrated the arrival of an ambulance on campus that would further facilitate round-the-clock medical care to all.

What followed was the “Back to School Competition” – a set of enjoyable activities that included a range of games like tug of war, balloon race, sack race, and lemon race. The activities saw participation from the students, the faculty members and their families, as well as the security guards of IIMBG present on the occasion. The celebrations for the day ended with other sporting activities like volleyball and cricket matches organized by the Sports Committee of IIM Bodh Gaya.
